The attorneys at our firm look forward to every initial consultation we have with our clients. This is the time when we get to know the client, and the client's unique situation. This is the time when we are often able to give some comfort to the client in the client's time of financial and personal distress. It's also the time, when, happily, we are able to talk about how the client will have a new fresh financial start to their life because of their bankruptcy, and how bankruptcy can be such a great benefit for them.

While it is not necessary to bring anything (except yourself) to the consultation, you may find bringing the following items helpful:

Summary of Your Assets: Bringing a summary of your assets to the consultation will help you zero in on exactly what you own, so that when we ask particular questions about the value of your cars for example, you would be able to readily provide us with that information. If you are unable to obtain this information by the consultation date, there is no need to worry. We can often look up the value of your vehicle ourselves.

Summary of Your Income: Bringing a summary of your income to the consultation is definitely helpful and allows us to better determine immediately whether you would qualify for a particular bankruptcy chapter. Often it is still difficult to know exactly what chapter you qualify for without further detailed analysis. However, sometimes the facts are straightforward enough that we could confidently assess at the initial consultation what chapter would be best for you.

List of Questions: Believe it or not, often having specific detailed questions can allow us to learn essential facts about your bankruptcy case. We always encourage as many questions from you as possible. Often facts about your case come up that we would not otherwise learn until you fill out your information in our specialized forms.

Tax Returns and Paystubs: Depending on how confident you are that you want to fully retain us on your initial consultation date, you can speed up our petition preparation process by having the last three years of tax returns and paystubs for the last ninety days.

Lawsuits and Writs of Garnishment: Often people become serious about filing when they realize they are being sued. If a creditor has sued you, or you feel that your wages are about to be garnished or accounts frozen, please bring all lawsuit documents with you so we can give you an appropriate time frame in which to file your bankruptcy petition.

Last but not Least, a Method of Payment: Often when you file bankruptcy you are financially strapped, but even the "bankrupt" must find a way pay for their bankruptcy. We do have payment plans to assist you, ask about them at the consultation. If you are confident you will likely retain us on your initial consultation date, having a method of payment handy will allow you to make a down payment on your bankruptcy, so that we can give you the required information packets, bankruptcy class information, and other items you need to get started on preparing for your bankruptcy filing date. This will also allow you to call us at any time to ask follow-up questions.
